Day 2 Monday, July 23, Denison to Jefferson, 71.7 miles, 2,527 Feet of Climb
Today was a long day with some great cycling and some interesting stop thru pass through towns. Here are some of the highlights of the day:
| 5:30 am Kybo lines start pretty early |
| Kybo stands for Keep Your Bowels Open |
| After 6:00am Reveille, the tent village comes alive |
| All are breaking camp before the 7:00 am depart time |
| And getting ready for the day's ride |
| After 20 miles of cycling, we come into Manning Iowa |
| We stop for a picture on a busy street |
| We meet Uncle Sam in Manning |
| And Team Bad Boy with decals from prior Ragbrai's |
| It's a long hot day and many are looking for shade |
| Chris and Bob enter Templeton, IA |
| In Templeton we find a Christmas Tree made of beer kegs |
| After 50 miles of cycling, we come in to Coon Rapids |
| Here is Chris departing Coon Rapids |
| Then we encounter some large hills |
| Chris is a very steady Hill Climber |
| We arrive in Scranton and join a lively group for a beer |
| Like many RAGBRIERs, these two like their costumes |
Finally we ride into Jefferson, our overnight city. We clocked 76 miles today with over 3,000 feet of climb. We encountered the 4H club today (Heat, Headwinds, Hills, Humidity) which made the ride seem longer than 76 miles. Tonight it was off to bed early after a long day.
